Baby elephant

The elephant starts to breed at the age of ten. The pregnancy lasts 22 months. The female gives a birth to one elephant every four years. The baby elephant is covered with black fur and, his weight is about 120 to 130 kg, and his height is from 85 cm to 1 meter. After half an hour it is ready to follow the herd. The mother feeds him with milk until he is at the age of two. It sucks with his mouth.

The only predators who can kill the little ones are lions or hienas. From them it is protected by his mother. When a little one is in trouble all the females come to help him. The mother is very loveable ane caring, she never takes her eyes off her child. The entire herd travels with the speed of the young elephants.
